3/27/09: 5 Keepsake Boxes

I've added 5 new keepsake box designs to the Store's order form, and updated several of the old keepsake box thumbnails with photographs of the boxes themselves. In addition, Orly has been discontinued and sold out as a keepsake box, and Doofy dragon has been discontinued, but there is exactly one box left. Keepsake boxes feature a tile inset in solid hardwood with high-gloss lacquer finish. The interior is fully lined in white velvet and the bottom is covered with maroon or black felt, depending on the color of the wood. The boxes measure 5.5" long x 5.5" wide x 2.25" deep.

3/17/09: Hand Construction Tutorial & Dreames of Gaia

The tutorials area recieved a new "hand contruction methods" tutorial. This tutorial features 20 images that I hope will be able to teach you a system that allows you to break down the hands. I hope to start updating the site with one new tutorial a month. We'll see if I have the time on top of my heavy workload with my other projects. I do have some ideas on what tutorials I'd like to do next, but I'm curious which ones interest you, my visitors the most. Ideally I'd like to alternate between drawing tutorials and art technique tutorials (such as digital coloring or other mediums) every other month. Please click here to access the poll and make suggestions.

Dreams of Gaia has been added to the links section. Dreams of Gaia features the wonderful work of Michele-lee Phelan. Inside you will find artwork depicting goddesses, faeries, dragons, and greek gods. Her mixed media paintings are absolutely wonderful to view!

3/11/09: New Messageboards

The new messageboards are up. Users of our old messageboards will need to reregister, but it will be well worth the trouble!I really think that everyone's going to really enjoy them. The new features include better security, so spambots can't get through as easily. As a result, users are able to activate their own accounts once more! You can now add image attachments to posts, post flash things, have signatures, report posts with the click of a button, and upload your own avatars. They are pretty darn great!

There's still a few cosmetic issues to be addressed. I need to reskin a few of the messageboard buttons to match NeonDragonArt's layout, but everything functions correctly and you can begin posting immediately if you like. The old messageboards will be going into lockdown mode in one week's time. After that, you will be able to read, but unable to post to them. A few months later, they will be deleted.

3/5/09: Harddrive and Personal Websites

I recently got an external hard drive. They are very affordable! I got a 640GB HD for $110. My entire laptop has 100GB, only 60 of which I am using!

I was able to partition it into two sizable chunks. One I use for time machine, to create a snapshot of my entire computer several times a day. This means that if my computer ever fries, I can completely restore it once its been repaired, programs, preferences, and all! The other half of the hard drive I use for media storage and files I don't want sitting around on my computer. I have a lot of art on my hard drive, sometimes saved multiple times in multiple formats. It will be nice to store some of this away and clean my computer up real nice.

I feel very reassured, and grateful that I no longer have to do weekly DVD backups!

I'm going to be making a greater effort to make NeonDragonArt my focus again. Many of you may know that my Deviantart gallery has my most recent art in it, and my livejournal has my thoughts and sketches in it. The fact that I'm using easier-to-update websites instead of my own is problematic, and it's a situation that I need to remedy. I'm going to be cutting all my offsite galleries back to under 50 pieces of artwork so that they're a sampling of my art, not a complete collection. NeonDragonArt is going to have its galleries filled up with more of my past artwork, and all of the current stuff, in addition to a few "NeonDragonArt Exclusives" that I will upload no where else :-)

The forum situation is problematic, and I'm working on correcting the problem. NeonDragonArt currently uses PHPBB2 for its forum system. The problem with this system is that its VERY easy for spambot programs to bypass its security and register accounts on their own. To combat this, I made all user account activation have to go through me. The problem lies in the fact that 50 bots register every day and only one or three actual users a week, making it very hard to sift out what needs to be activated. Users cannot currently upload their own avatars either. Signatures are broken.

All of these problems could be corrected by upgrading to PHPBB3. It would mean creating a new forum and having all existing accounts reregister, but I think that the ability for users to register and activate themselves IMMEDIATELY, upload their own avatars, and have working sigs is gonna be well worth the hassle and lost posts. I'm hoping to get to this sometime this month. We shall see!

Here, have a dragon head I did on my ustream earlier this week.

3/4/09: Stickers

Some of you may have remembered me talking about stickers half a year back. The stickers have long since been printed, and they've been pretty well received at the anime conventions that we attend. Last night I finally got the sticker graphics and pages put together and placed online. If you're interested in the stickers, you can place an online order here.

The stickers are made of polyester, which means that they don't rip or tear easily, won't turn to sludge from rain, and can handle lots of detail packed into each image. Stickers are generally 2-3 inches in size and are die-cut to follow the curves of the image. (click on individual stickers to see what the cut will be) Stickers are $1 each or 6 for $5. They can be mix-and-matched with other dollar items, such as buttons or postcards for the 6 for $5 discount.

Here's a shot of the stickers so you can see what they generally look like. They're nice and glossy, and hold up great!

3/1/09: Ustream

I'm now streaming my artwork almost daily. If you see this graphic on the main page light up as "Online", chances are good that I am actively streaming.

What is streaming? You can watch me work as I work as a video, with a chat to the right. You recieve a video feed of my desktop as I draw and can watch me "real time" (there is about a 15 second delay, but it's close enough!). For audio I alternate between a mic for explanations about what I am doing, and during the times when I am silent I stream movie soundtracks.
