Just for fun.:) (Not Hordes worthy) I wanted to draw something with an adorable color scheme, so I drew this lizard thing. Now I know the shading is real inconsistent, but I plan to work on shading. Eventually. Any tips? I know throwing cloth on interestingly shaped items and sketching it helps a lot with learning folds and stuff...Practice, practice! huh? I really like how the sky came out, the tree is 'meh' and the grass was 'eh.' Oh! And I'm going to start putting more meat on my subjects, I promise. Besides, I wanna draw something curvy..:P Well, I hope you like my...Lizard..thing.

I think he's cute. Love the colors and his striped arms and tail. His head seems a bit too big for his body though, and he seems like his center of balance is a little off.
I like the sky. The tree doesn't look that bad, maybe it could just use a lighter color to highlight the bark a bit. The grass looks fine too, though a touch flat.
I think you did nicely on this.

Thanks! Yeah, his head looks big because his a bean-pole..XD With the center of balance, I understand what you mean; I tried to make him look like he was leaning back a bit. But that's what practice is for, eh? I'll remember the tip for the tree, but how do I make the grass look not-flat?

to make the grass less flat.....hmmmm....i don't really know how. maybe add a hill or something in the background? i do, however, think yur anatomy's off. the waist is too small and there's some other stuff. i draw creatures like this often so I'll do a quick sketch to show you.

To make the grass less flat...
I just searched through my art and apparently i haven't drawn a whole lot of grass... xD I'm trying to find an example of what i'm about to say.

Okay, so, what i suggest for making the grass less flat is to draw smaller strokes further away, and larger ones up close. I like what you've done with the different tones of green, but i think it might be helpful to use one or two more. What i like to do is draw the base color, then add some detail on the edges (the end of the hill, the base of the tree, and by the characters feet) in the same color. And then i go over the whole thing in a lighter or darker color, little strokes all over the place. I generally go with a shade or tone of the same green though, just moving the color selector thing closer to black or white accordingly.
You can also make the brush bigger as you come forward in the pic, and smaller when you go back, to create an illusion of depth. Remember, the further away something is the less detail it will have.
Shading also helps, but since this is a night scene, there probably won't be a whole lot of that.
Hmm... Airbrushing in some depth before you acutally start with the blades of grass may also help. Then you can pick up the color in front of the airbrushed shadows or highlights to give an illusion on shadows or hills beneath the blades of grass...
Always remember to start furthest away and layer the blades forward, though. Same with drawing fur. That way the root/bottom is covered up and things look lusher.

I love how the sky turned out! ^_^ Hmm.....I am working on shading too, but really pick a light sorce, I find it helpful to draw a circle or shade where the light sorce is so I don't forget and it turns out looken' wierd. basicly where the light does not hit it is darker, where the light does hit it is lighter, that is all I got for now.

Thesycloe: I know how to shade, it's just I need to practice /how/ to shade, if that makes any sense.
